Say "Hello" to Cassie!
So, you're probably asking yourself, "Who is this Cassie?".  Well, she's a character I came up with about 15 years ago, who just happended to be eerily similar to my then 7 year old daughter.  It started out harmlessly enough, a sketch here and a drawing there to keep her entertained, but she loved it so much that I decided to take it a bit further.

I wrote a couple of strips at first, featuring Cassie and an assortment of people and critters around her that were loosely based on my own family and ranch.  Of couse I'm using the term "loosely" rather loosely in this context.  Ok, so the strips are darn near a snapshot of everyday life back then, perhaps exaggerated a tad, but not by much.

It got to be so fun, that I kept on going with it.  I actually had quite a number of strips created when someone suggested I try submitting them to some of the syndicates.  I decided, "what the heck", and gave it a shot.  Of course nothing ever came of it.  In fact, one of the responses  was "Your artwork sucks." Ok, not really, but it might as well have been and I took the hint.  But surprisingly, they liked the content and suggested working with someone who could actually draw and to try again.  Obviously that never happened because you don't see "Cassie's Ranch" in the daily papers, but time went on, my daughter got older and I just got involved with other things.

As luck would have it, I was cleaning out my office not too long ago and came across some of the strips that had managed to survive all these years.  They're not in the best condition, but legible for the most part.  I showed my "Cassie" the strips and she, now nearly 23 and with a son of her own, seemed embarrassed by them.  To be honest, that just added fuel to the fire of what is already a 5-alarmer in my warped brain.  What father would not take an opportunity to embarrass one of his kids?  So, now here I am, posting the old strips for the world to see, confident that someone, somewhere, will give my daughter a good "ribbing".  By the way,  that's old-fart speak for "tease her relentlessly".

Actually, I don't expect that to happen at all.  If anyone gets a good taunting from any of this, it will probably be me for all the sh stuff I put up with back then.  Who knows, maybe if enough folks like the strips, I'll pick up my pen again and with my copious amount of free time, draw up some new stuff... lousy artwork and all.
